2:05 a.m. - 2004-05-30 A friend of mine from high school got married today (ok, technically yesterday) to the guy she's been dating as long as I've known her. (Going on nine years, now.) I don't see her much any more, but Jamie got recruited to play, I got recruited to page turn, and we both got invited to the reception as a result. And it was so fun! I danced up a storm with my friend Shrub (an apt name, as he is a staunch conservative in addition to there being a long history of Shrubbery humour between the two of us), who is possibly my favourite person in the world to dance with, because he's totally crazy. I drank with one of my high school band teachers and his wife, and chatted and reminisced, and hung out with their equally delightful daughter, who we also went to high school with. I laughed and gossiped with the bride, something we haven't done in far too long. I made plans, collected email addresses, drank (a lot), danced, ate delicious chocolate, and all in all remembered why I liked high school so much. I had awesome friends then, and even though I don't see them much anymore, it was good to be reminded. So good that I think most if not all of them will find their way onto the guest list for our wedding. After all, Jamie and I knew them all then, too, and we both liked them all a lot as well. It seems silly that we all still live around here and don't see much of each other, because we've got a lot of history together and it's a shame to let that go to waste. It seems fitting that we have some representation from that period of our lives, since it's high school when Jamie and I really became friends. (He doesn't remember me from junior high, even though I know he knew who I was.) Besides, Shrub is a one-man party starter - the guy has got endless energy and a totally friendly and outgoing manner that endears him to some and drives others insane. I'm never sure which category I fall into, but it seems that I always have a good time when he's around. And the bride looked absolutely beautiful, and the couple looked so happy - my favourite kind of wedding is when the couple has a goofy fun time at the reception and seem totally nuts about each other, so it was good to see that they're still so happy together. And it was good to remember the good times of yore, and look forward to the good times of the future.
